Neighbour Goods Market

Oh vibrant city! Oh beautiful people!

I just have to say, the people of Johannesburg are a pleasant mix. Filled with quirky style. For an average mind, their style and way of life comes across as too upfront, and sometimes questionable.

But left to me I’ll describe it as a mix of British grunge, vintage classic, and American swag and sometimes post modernist. And where do all the cool kids hang? Neighbour goods market, Braamfontein Johannesburg.
Market Entrance

I had the pleasure of visiting this past February. Although that wasn’t my first time there, it is the first time I’m documenting it, and my experience there. I went on a Saturday, which is the only day that attracts the usual cool crowd and is filled up.

By the way , I went with a friend of mine, Fezeka. *Cool tip, go with your friend(s) rather than go alone to make friends there. Does you a whole good, trust me, I say this with experience. Most people come in small group of friends and most times stick with each other all through.

Right from the entrance, the aroma of different foods, snacks and all sorts greet your nostrils. Food Heaven. Did I forget to mention? Go with an empty stomach as well, you’ll be confused with lots of choices and will leave fuller than you bargained for.

I ended up having some Durban Deli, cos I was craving something homemade and filling.

Up the stairs of the market is is also opened. People have stands with high street and mostly vintage clothes for sale there.

There are also some small chops being sold there and a big bar where I got this watermelon and alcohol mixed drink. Some people usually buy food downstairs and chill upstairs.

I guess this won’t be a complete post without giving some tips on  how to dress. It’s easy, come dressed in what expresses your style most. Heels, flats, converse, boots, dressed up, dressed down, trendy or just sticking to what you know best. Most importantly be comfortable.

Braamfontein style and some of the beautiful people I met.

Myself ...of course

Xoxo.
